Staying Motivated – 5 Tips

Motivation is a powerful tool to help you succeed in your business. How motivated you are and continue to make forward progress will determine whether you succeed or not.

Benefits of being motivated

People who are motivated are happier, more creative, have more energy, are flexible, are more optimistic, are more apt to stay healthy, these are just a few of the benefits of staying positive.

What is Motivation?

The dictionary definition of motivation is: “forces acting either on or within a person to initiate behavior”. So in short it’s the ability of taking action. People often know everything that needs to be done in order to succeed but never take action.

There are probably hundreds of ways of staying motivated but here are five that I apply on a regular basis in my life.

  1. Setting goals – I’ve talked before about the importance of having goals. We often think that goals are for big companies, but you should remember that your life is your business. Ask anyone who is successful if they have goals and I’m sure 99% will say yes. We should be setting short, medium and long term goals in five areas: family, financial, spiritual, career and physical.
  2. Find positive people to hang around with- I have once heard this expression “The rotten Apple spoils his Companion”. If you hang around positive people you will be happier and they will also inspire you to stay motivated.
  3. Smile – I’m sure you have heard that smiling is contagious. When you smile at someone and they smile back at you this is an incredible motivational force.
  4. Talk positively- Like smiling, using positive word not only makes you feel better but will also be beneficial to the people around you. Having an enthusiastic tone of voice and smiling when you talk will bring forth a positive reaction in every case.
  5. 5. Read inspiring books and listen to motivational programs. – This is my favorite way to stay motivated. I was once asked how I could always see the good side of things while everything around me was falling apart. My answer was simple, on my way to work I don’t listen to the radio instead I listen to audio books or personal development audio programs. Today with the internet you can find tons of good audio program, free ebooks, newsletter, etc. You can also go to your public library.

Final Thought

We all have bad days, and being motivated is not just saying positive affirmations. Being positive is being able to take action towards our goals even when everything around us seems to be falling apart.

To Your Success.

Working full Time, raising 2 young children, spending time with your family, exercise, etc.  You might ask yourself “How can I successfully promote and build my Internet Business”?

Self Discipline

What Is Self-Discipline?

Steve Pavlina  of Steve Pavlina.com defines it this way:

Self-discipline is the ability to get yourself to take action regardless of your emotional state.”

I have 2 young children under the age of 3, so I would  add to Steve definition ”… regardless of the number of interruption you get and how tired you are” :-) .  Those of you with young children will understand.  In a previous post  I mentioned that for the last 2-3 weeks I was up till 1 AM almost every night trying to setup my blogs and business.  I enjoy very much Woodworking and will have a blog up once I’m done setting up my IM business.

Regardless of this I still need to get things done. So here are a few things I do to balance my life:

  • To minimize forgetting, I record my thoughts. I always  have a pen and a piece of papers close by so I can write down new ideas that pop up in my mind.  Things that I need to do.  I then transfer them to a task list that I have on my computer.
  • Goals, Goals, Goals.  What are your objectives? You should not only focus on your financial but I also look at your family, personal development and spiritual goals.  I will devote an entire article on Goal Setting.
  • Set aside a period of time that you will spend promoting your business. and let your family know that during that time you should not be disturbed.  For me it’s after the kids are in bed and that I have spent time with my wife.
  • Used commuting time to listen to audio recordings related to Internet Marketing.  Zig Ziglar calls this Automobile University.  I commute by bus so I verify emails, browse ads for safelist on my mobile device and read free reports I have downloaded.
  • Keep your working area (computer desk) clutter free.  Having a clutter area free keeps you from being distracted and it help you stay focussed.

Stay Motivated

You need to be inspired in order to achieve any goals.  If you are not passionate about something, you will likely quit after a few months especially if you are going through rough times.  And I know we all have our own stories.

Read inspirational books.  Listen to motivantional tapes.  LearnOutLoud.Com is a great place to download motivational tapes.  They even sometimes offer free download.  Subscribe to newsletters from motivational speaker like Jim Rhon, Anthony Robbins, Zig Ziglar.

Another great site is Success.com The have an excellent online application called Life Organizer where you can track your goals, task, calendar, etc.

Relax and enjoy Life

The title says it all.  You need to enjoy what you are doing, have fun, spend time with your family especially if you have young children.  I’m not sure why I waited so long to start an Intenet business.  I have been working in the IT industry for 10 years and it took me about 5 years to take the plunge.  I always had excuse why I could not start my own business.

Well now it’s never been easier to start an online business.  With all the affiliate programs programs available, with some, you don’t even need a website.

What i like about Internet Marketing is that the internet will never go away and new products for sale will always come up.
